Privacy Policy
Last updated: 16 September 2026
This policy explains what InsurTool ("we", "us", "our") collects when you use insurtool.com, why we collect it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and how you can control it. It covers our calculators, guides, and the advertising that supports this site.
Summary
- Our calculators run in your browser. We do not require an account, an email address or a phone number to use any tool on this site, and the figures you type into a calculator are not sent to our servers.
- We use Google Analytics to understand which pages are read. We enable IP anonymisation and honour the Global Privacy Control signal.
- We display advertising served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies to do this; you can turn personalised advertising off.
- We do not sell your personal information, and we do not pass your email address or any other identifier into ad requests.
- If you are in the EEA or the UK, personalised advertising and advertising cookies are only used after you consent, and you can withdraw that consent at any time.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Contact form and email. If you write to us, we receive the name, email address and message you submit so we can reply. Contact-form submissions are delivered to us by Web3Forms (web3forms.com), which processes them only to transmit and store them for us.
- Editorial update emails. If you subscribe using the form in our footer, we store the email address you provide for the sole purpose of sending you occasional editorial updates. Every email contains a one-click unsubscribe link, and we do not sell or rent the list.
- Calculator inputs. Values you type into a calculator — age, state, coverage amount, vehicle details and similar — are processed locally in your browser to produce the result you see. They are not transmitted to us and are not stored after you close the page.
Information collected automatically
- Usage data. Through Google Analytics we collect a truncated (anonymised) IP address, approximate location derived from it, device and browser type, referring page, the pages you view and how long you spend on them.
- Server logs. Our hosting provider records standard request logs — IP address, timestamp, requested URL, user agent — for security and troubleshooting.
- Cookies and similar technologies. Described in detail in the next section.
We do not collect precise geolocation data, we do not request access to your device's location, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Cookies and similar technologies
A cookie is a small text file a site stores in your browser. We use three kinds:
- Strictly necessary. A preference cookie that remembers whether you chose light or dark mode, and one that remembers your cookie choice so we do not ask again. These are not used for tracking.
- Analytics. Google Analytics sets cookies to distinguish one visitor from another so we can count reads and see which guides are useful. We configure IP anonymisation.
- Advertising. Google and its advertising partners set cookies to serve ads on this site, measure how those ads performed, and — where you have consented or where local law permits — to make advertising more relevant to you.
You can delete or block cookies at any time through your browser settings; blocking the advertising and analytics cookies does not affect any calculator on this site, because the calculators do not depend on them. Our Cookie Policy lists the individual cookies and their lifetimes.
Advertising: Google AdSense and third-party vendors
This site is supported by advertising. We use Google AdSense to serve it. Because advertising involves data collection, we set this out explicitly:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies — including the DoubleClick DART cookie — to serve ads on this site. Third-party vendors and ad networks may also place or read cookies on your browser when ads are served here.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info/choices or, in the EU, at youronlinechoices.eu.
- We do not pass any personally identifiable information — your name, email address, phone number or account identifiers — into ad requests, URLs, or any data layer on this site.
- We do not use, and do not permit our partners to use, sensitive information such as health status, religious belief or sexual orientation to target advertising on this site.
- Where a third party's cookies are served through this site, that party's own privacy policy governs its use of the data. See how Google uses advertising data and Google's privacy policy.
We do not place advertising on pages that carry no editorial content, and we do not allow advertising to be presented in a way that could be mistaken for our own navigation, our own calculator output, or our editorial recommendations. Every ad unit on this site is labelled “Advertisement”.
Consent for visitors in the EEA and the UK
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, personalised advertising and advertising cookies are used only after you give consent through the consent banner shown on your first visit. Until you consent, only non-personalised advertising is served. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time by clearing the site's stored preferences in your browser or by reopening the consent notice, and you can adjust your choices for individual vendors from the notice itself.
We honour the Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signal. If your browser sends it, we treat that as an opt-out request and stop loading analytics and advertising scripts for your session.
Why we use your information
- To operate and maintain the site and its calculators.
- To reply to messages you send us and to send editorial updates you asked for.
- To understand which pages are read and improve them.
- To display advertising that funds the site, and to measure its performance.
- To detect, prevent and address abuse, security incidents and technical faults.
- To comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.
Our lawful bases under the GDPR, where it applies, are: consent (advertising cookies and personalised advertising in the EEA/UK, and editorial update emails), legitimate interests (site security, aggregate analytics, and the non-personalised advertising needed to fund the site), and legal obligation where we must retain or disclose something by law.
Who we share information with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with:
- Service providers — our hosting provider, Google (Analytics and AdSense), and Web3Forms for contact-form delivery. Each is bound to use the data only for the service it provides to us.
- Advertising partners — Google and the vendors in its advertising ecosystem, as described above, and only for the purpose of serving and measuring advertising.
- Legal requirements — where we are required to disclose information by law or in response to a valid legal request.
- Business transfer — if the site or its assets are transferred to another operator, information may transfer with it, subject to this policy.
How long we keep information
- Contact-form messages and email: retained for up to 24 months so we can follow up on a correction or question, then deleted.
- Editorial update subscriptions: retained until you unsubscribe, plus up to 30 days for the unsubscribe to propagate.
- Analytics data: retained for 14 months, then deleted.
- Server logs: retained for up to 30 days.
- Calculator inputs: never stored — they exist only in your browser tab.
Your rights
California residents (CCPA / CPRA)
- Right to know what personal information we collect, use and disclose, and the categories of sources and recipients.
- Right to access a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Right to correct inaccurate personal information.
- Right to delete personal information we have collected from you.
- Right to opt out of sale or sharing. We do not sell personal information. Where advertising cookies could constitute “sharing” for cross-context behavioural advertising, you can opt out using the “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” choice in our consent notice, or by sending us a Global Privacy Control signal.
- Right to limit use of sensitive personal information. We do not collect sensitive personal information for the purpose of inferring characteristics about you.
- Right to non-discrimination. Exercising any of these rights will not change your access to this site or its tools.
To exercise a CCPA/CPRA right, email team@insurtool.com with the right you are exercising. We will acknowledge within 10 business days and respond within 45 days.

International transfers
We are based in the United States and our service providers process data there. Where personal data from the EEA or the UK is transferred to the United States, our providers rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or an equivalent lawful transfer mechanism.
Security
We serve the site over HTTPS and restrict access to the accounts and systems that hold submitted information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security — but we collect as little as possible, which is the most effective protection available.
Children
This site is written for adults making insurance decisions. It is not directed to children under 13, we do not knowingly collect personal information from them, and we do not run advertising targeted to them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
When we make a material change — for example, adding a new advertising partner or a new category of data — we update this page and change the “last updated” date above. We will not apply a new use to information we already hold without telling you.
Contact us
For any privacy question or request — including access, deletion, correction, or an opt-out — email team@insurtool.com or use our contact form. If your request concerns how Google used data from this site, you can also contact Google directly through the links in the advertising section above.
