Affiliate Disclosure
Last updated: 16 September 2026
This page explains how InsurTool makes money, how we label the links that make money, and — more importantly — what compensation does not buy on this site. It applies to every page on insurtool.com.
The short version
- Some outbound links to third-party services are affiliate links. If you click one and later buy something, the provider may pay us a commission.
- You never pay more because of it. The commission comes out of the provider's margin, not your pocket.
- It never decides what we say. Compensation is not a factor in which companies we mention, in what order, or in what we conclude about them.
- Affiliate links are labelled on the page that contains them, and marked as sponsored in the link markup for search engines.
- Our calculators are free, run in your browser, and are not lead-generation forms.
What an affiliate link is
An affiliate link is a normal link with a tracking identifier attached. If you follow it to a provider and then sign up or buy, that provider can tell the visit came from us and pays a referral fee. The mechanism is standard across the web; the question that matters for a reader is whether the fee changed the advice. On this site, it does not, and the next two sections explain how that is enforced in practice rather than just asserted.
What compensation does not buy
- It does not buy a mention. We do not add a company to a page because it has an affiliate programme. Several of the providers we discuss in our guides pay us nothing at all.
- It does not buy a ranking. Where we compare options, the order reflects the comparison criteria we state on the page — not the commission rate.
- It does not buy an edit. No advertiser or partner reviews, approves, or requests changes to a page before it is published. If a partner asks us to soften a finding, we decline and would rather end the relationship.
- It does not buy silence about drawbacks. Where a product has a catch — a waiting period, an exclusion, a rate that resets — we say so on the page, including on pages that carry affiliate links.
How we label commercial links
Three layers, so that a reader cannot miss it:
- A notice at the top of the page that contains affiliate links — placed before the content, not buried at the bottom or hidden behind a link.
- A visible label at the link itself, so the commercial nature is clear at the moment you are about to click, not only in a policy document.
- Machine-readable markup — affiliate links carry
rel="sponsored"andrel="nofollow", in line with search-engine guidance on paid links.
This is consistent with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission's guidance on endorsements and testimonials, which requires a clear and conspicuous disclosure of a material connection, placed close to the endorsement rather than only on a separate disclosures page.
Partnerships
None of the partnerships below are active yet, so no link on this site currently earns us a commission. We list them because we would rather show you the intended relationships than have you discover them later. When a partnership becomes active, this page will be updated on the same day and the relevant links will be labelled on the page that carries them.
- EverQuote — Compare auto and home insurance quotes from multiple carriers. (Insurance; status: not yet active)
- QuoteWizard — Side-by-side insurance quotes for auto, home, and life. (Insurance; status: not yet active)
- Policygenius — Compare life and disability insurance policies online. (Life insurance; status: not yet active)
- Bankrate Insurance — Rates and comparison tools for auto, home, and life insurance. (Insurance; status: not yet active)
We do not list a provider here purely because it has a programme. Where a page recommends something we earn nothing from, that recommendation stands on its own and carries no disclosure, because there is nothing to disclose.
Advertising
This site is supported by advertising served through Google AdSense. Advertising is separate from affiliate links: we are paid for the impression or the click on the ad, not for what you do afterwards, and the advertiser does not see our editorial content before publication. Every ad unit on this site is labelled “Advertisement” and is kept visually distinct from our own navigation, our calculator output and our editorial recommendations. You can read how advertising cookies work — and turn them off — in our Cookie Policy and Privacy Policy.
What this site is not
InsurTool is an educational resource. We are not an insurance carrier, agent, broker, or financial adviser, and we cannot sell you a policy or advise you on what to buy. Nothing on this site is insurance, financial, tax or legal advice. Whatever you read here, confirm the specifics — coverage, exclusions, price, eligibility — with a licensed professional or the insurer directly before you act on it.
Questions or complaints
If you think a page is not disclosing a commercial relationship clearly enough, tell us — that is a correction we want to make. Email team@insurtool.com or use our contact form. Our wider standards for sourcing, review and corrections are in our editorial policy.
Common questions
Does compensation affect which companies you mention?
No. We decide what a page needs to say first, then look at whether any of the companies involved happen to have an affiliate programme. If the best answer for a reader is a company we earn nothing from, that is the company we name. We do not accept payment to write a favourable review, and no partner sees a page before it is published.
Will using your link cost me more?
No. Commission is paid by the provider out of its own margin. The price you see is the same whether you arrive through our link or by typing the provider's address directly. We do not accept arrangements where a reader pays a higher price for arriving via our site.
Do you earn money from the calculators?
No. Our calculators are free, run in your browser, and are not a lead form. They do not collect your email address or phone number, and the numbers you enter are never sent to us or sold to anyone. Their only purpose is to help you understand how a premium is built.
How do you make money right now?
Right now InsurTool is funded by its operators. We are not currently earning commission from any partner listed below, because those partnerships are not active yet. If and when they become active, this page will say so and the links will be labelled on the page that contains them.
What if a page has no commercial links at all?
Then it carries no disclosure, because there is nothing to disclose. Most of this site — the state rate pages, the guides, the calculators — contains no commercial links whatsoever.
